Meet… Live Swimming Pink Scallops

The Swimming Pink Scallop is a delicious and colorful species of scallop. They are sold live and in shell with a smaller size more similar to a Nantucket Bay Scallop and average about 22 pieces per pound. This season typically runs from January till May. These scallops are hand harvested so they don’t have any sand or silt in them which is typical of live sea scallops. Evan’s scallops are incredibly versatile because they are so clean and are perfect for eating whole. These will arrive alive and should be eaten within 3 or 4 days of delivery. Our favorite ways to eat them are as a clam substitute in linguine and clams, lightly steamed like a softshell clam or baked like an oysters rockefeller.

Live in-Shell | Sold in 5 pound increments (weighing live and very active animals isn't easy but every honest effort will be made to get as close to this exact weight as possible!)

Should be consumed within 48 hours of delivery.

Evan O'Brien and the products he harvests are unique for a LOT of reasons. First, he harvests wild Alaskan Scallops and Gooseneck Barnacles by hand in the frigid waters off Sitka Alaska. Second, the products he harvests are unique and being offered for the first time through pilot permits he’s been issued. Both products are handled with the utmost care and shipped live within hours of being out of water.

These scallops aren't overly sweet like scallops in New England. They have an oyster-like brininess as well as a nutty flavor usually associated with clams.

These scallops arrived in very good condition, some were even lively. I ate a few raw and sauted some in the garlic wine sauce. They dont have a lot of flavor, it is very mild, but I still enjoyed them as it is so rare to find live scallops. I only wish some instructions had been given about how to clean them as after cooking it was difficult.
Jennifer S.
These scallops were amazing! We steamed them in a jalapeno, tomato, and basil broth first. Then we made a pasta with the leftovers! We are so glad we tried these.
