Meet… CA Spiny Lobster.
Live California Spiny Lobster are caught by the Saraspe family off the coast of San Diego. They are harvested in traps by experienced licensed fishermen. This specie of lobster does not have claws, like their East coast counterpart. California Spiny Lobster have a significantly larger yield of meat in their tails than Maine lobsters. The meat is much sweeter and more tender than East coast lobster. The fishery is regulated by length of lobster, gear types, and permitting. This harvest method produce minimal bycatch and habitat impacts leading the California Spiny lobster to be a “Best Choice” by Marine Stewardship Council. Please note: This product may take extra time to arrive due to fishing availability from our fishermen.
Whole | Sold in 2 or 3 count quantities (Lobster is priced per piece in varying sizes and fluctuates with the market. Each lobster is roughly 1.20-1.50 pounds, but vary in size. This ain't baking cakes!). WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT LOBSTERS WILL ARRIVE ALIVE. Not to worry, these are still delicious to eat if they died in transit.
Should be consumed within 24 hours of delivery and can be frozen.

The Saraspe family has been servicing the San Diego area since the early ‘50s. The family’s fleet was established in 1952 when Lauro Saraspe built his first skiff. Unlike the average college student, he fished the early mornings before class and would drive around selling that morning’s catch to restaurants and wholesalers at lunchtime. He was one of the first fishermen in San Diego to supply Chesapeake Fish Co. and Anthony’s Fish Grotto.
